I visited the Daily Telegraph House & Garden Fair last month in London and here is my report........
Well, firstly I noticed that it was much quieter than previous years. Then I noticed that there weren't any room sets - other than John Cullen Lighting's Lighthouse, usually they have 4 room sets on the ground floor by international designers, then the BIDA take a group stand showcasing interior designers work from bathrooms to luxurious media rooms. So, apart from gorgeous sparkly flip-flops (I bought a pair in silver and a pair in brown and gold), what was there outstanding.....loved The Corner Fridge Company - what a great use of corner space - take a look at their website. Also check out their glass radiators.
The design lectures I found the most interesting so I shall devote some time to my favourite: Joa Studholme's talk on Farrow & Ball paints,
how to use their colours.......so, order one of their colour charts and feast your eyes on the wealth of colour. When putting a scheme together sometimes Joa asks the client which one of three groups of neutrals they prefer, a)greys (sophisticated, aged) - which include Slipper Satin, Lime White, Off White and Old White, b) yellows (easier to live with), which include White Tie, New White, Match Stick, and String and c) reds (taupes, contemporary, warmer), which include Archive, Joa's white, Dimity and Pointing.
Now these whites don't exactly look white, they have a lot of pigment in them but she suggests you use these as your whites and build up layers of colours from these. More from me at my workshops.....
